Grace Period for Medical Examiners
Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Announces Grace Period for Medical Examiners
On Monday, December 21, 2015, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) published guidance allowing a 120-day grace period during which Medical Examiners may use either the current or the newly revised versions of the Medical Examination Report (MER) form and Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC).
Earlier in 2015, FMCSA published a final rule requiring the use of a new MER form (MCSA 5875) and new MEC (MCSA 5876) as of December 22, 2015. Due to delays in making an electronic version of the form available to medical examiners, FMCSA is providing the 120-day grace period.
From December 22, 2015, until April 20, 2016, medical examiners may use either the current forms and certificates or the new forms and certificates.
This guidance was published in the Federal Register Monday, December 21, 2015.
